Geninc and the Psychology of Success

Henri Ford, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan, Walt Disney… All have one thing in common. Their success, of course, but above all a certain state of mind! The key to their success lies in their ability to face obstacles and never give up despite their failures. Here are a few tips on how to get on the road to success with your mindset.

The impact of your mindset on your success

Our mindset plays a crucial role in our lives. It is forged by education, experiences and environment, but it is also possible to take control of it to develop and evolve it. Changing our mindset can be very positive and bring about great opportunities.

It is our thoughts and beliefs that influence our actions. If, for example, we think that we will not be able to overcome an obstacle, we will tend to give up more easily than if we are certain that we will be able to do it. From these differences, we can distinguish two main states of mindset : the fixed mindset and the growth mindset.

The Fixed Mindset

People with the fixed mindset believe that intelligence and skills are innate at birth and that they are unchangeable, no matter how hard they try. People with this mindset are more likely to give up when faced with difficulties, thinking that they are not able to do better. Because they stay in their comfort zone, they never improve.

The Growth Mindset

Conversely, people with a growth mindset believe that intelligence is not innate and that it can be worked on. They are open to challenges and change. They are constantly looking for ways to improve despite their weaknesses, which allows them to achieve their goals. They are positive and turn their failures into lessons. Obstacles are opportunities for them.

Turn your failures into opportunities

The mindset can be both a brake and a springboard. That’s why it is important to redefine one’s beliefs and especially one’s self-esteem, because this is what allows one to aim higher. A fixed mindset does not learn anything from its failures because it perceives them as something shameful and as proof that they are not up to the task, which generates a lot of frustration. On the other hand, a growth mindset sees failure as a step towards success. They get their energy from the progress they have made, which keeps them motivated and never gives up. The fixed mindset will run away from difficulties because it feels uncomfortable with them and sees them as insurmountable barriers, whereas the growth mindset looks for them to improve.
