At 28 and after 4 years as a Brand Ambassador and a sales coach, Donavan is opening his own Geninc Franchise in Mechelen in Belgium! A  big step in the development of this driven young entrepreneur.

What did you do before you became a Brand Ambassador?

I worked in a warehouse for almost three years. At the time I was just looking for a job and landed there because it did not require a ton of skills. But it wasn’t very rewarding either. You do your work, you grab your money and you go home. After 2 years, there was no evolution in sight for me and I got frustrated. The only way to earn more in that kind of job is to do more hours. There is nothing beyond that and you never learn anything new.

When he explained that I could work in sales while developing my sales skills as well as my social skills and confidence, it clicked. I wanted to give myself a chance to develop a new skillset.

My dream was to become an air traffic controller, but I lacked the skills, and I didn’t even try to become one, because I just didn’t have the confidence in myself!.

When I became a Brand Ambassador Geninc, my coach asked me: “Do you think sales is for you?” and I didn’t know if it was! I didnt have the skills or the confidence to become a sales person -or at least that is what I thought at the time!I When he explained that I could work in sales while developing my sales skills as well as my social skills and confidence, it clicked. I wanted to give myself a chance to develop a new skillset.

What is your Experience as a Brand Ambassador?

It’s been amazing!! Especially at the beginning. For the first time I was focusing on myself, learning and growing everyday. In my first week I had zero confidence, but I had so much fun in the field that I wanted to keep trying. I clearly wasn’t the best, but I learned to take my time, not to compare myself with others constantly and to push myself.

It’s so rewarding to see other people develop thanks to you and the advice you give them.

After 6 months of getting my confidence and skills up, I was able to start coaching and helping new Brand Ambassadors. It’s so rewarding to see other people develop thanks to you and the advice you give them.

I’ve been coaching people for almost 4 years now, and it has become my favourite part of all the things I do.

What is going to change now that you are a franchisee?

It’s basically the same thing, but with more accountability. I’m the one responsible for the wellbeing and development of the Brand Ambassadors I work with. It’s also running my own business, so I’m going to be doing more, and I will need to be more organised.

I want to be the kind of franchisee who is leading people by setting the pace, and by being an example and an inspiration. I do what needs to be done so everyone can succeed.

I’m also going to expand the reach of Geninc by opening a new coworking hub in Mechelen! It’s not that far from Antwerp but it’s a big step towards having a lot of coworking hubs all over Belgium and all over Europe! I’m excited to be a “pilgrim”!

I want to be the kind of franchisee who is leading people by setting the pace, and by being an example and an inspiration. I do what needs to be done so everyone can succeed.

Tips for a future franchisee ?

  • Be persistent. Never give up and take your time
  • Learn from your mistakes. If you keep repeating the same pattern you’ll always get the same result
  • Go all in. If you consider doing something, don’t spend all your time making a great plan B, focus on plan A!
